Whoops. Scratch That.
Just when you think there is a plan, something comes along to change the trajectory. After a good morning, Jon was found to have a fever when he went in for his normal checkup. The fever didn't go away after a few hours, it got a little worse. It seems he has an infection and the most likely source is the line. They are going to admit him back into the hospital now because there are more unknowns. As always, the big worry is sepsis. If you don't know what is causing a fever, you have to think of all the worst possibilities. A bloodstream infection is the worst possibility right now.
He hasn't heard directly from the attending yet but the nurse on duty here surmises that they will take the central line out tomorrow. Then there will be a 48 hour waiting period. Then they can put in a PICC line and think about what the new timeline will be. But there will be some more pauses while they try to stabilize this situation. Jon will be in the hospital until they figure it out.
Jon is very disappointed. But he will be glad to have this central line taken out, if they really decide to do that. That line has done its job. He has been collected and now he can have a smaller line in his arm. He is concerned that everything will come to a stop over the weekend, but the nurse says that a PICC nurse can put in the line and it's not a big deal.

Meanwhile, I had a very nice visit with Laura Cooper sitting outside in the garage and then in the hospital cafeteria. It was a spirit-lifting visit. Then a few minutes later I lost my phone when it fell out of my pocket in the bathroom. I couldn't find it when I went back to look so then I walked the many hallways looking for Security and the non-existent lost and found. When I went back to see Jon in the IPOP, he calmly gave me his phone to try to track down my phone, and I found it eventually, completely hidden under the toilet. Most excellent.
Alissa is now on the phone giving Jon some perspective, telling him what to expect and how unusual it was that he never got admitted during the last transplant. She says that she he should expect to have a full work-up when he goes back to the hospital and they will change his antibiotics. She says this is all very normal and we just didn't know how lucky he was last time.
I am trying not to be too sad to be missing Rebecca's birthday today. She is in good hands with all of the family around her, celebrating.
