Plan For Going Home

I have to finish the 48 hours of IV antibiotics and then I can definitely go home. Predicted to be excused at 8 PM even if I never pass gas -- they have listened to my innards and they are satisfied that things are in motion.  All other indicators are good. I just finished my best walk so far -- I am learning which muscles to rely on and which ones are poked.  It is probably the pain meds but I feel the best I have felt since I walked into this hospital room on Tuesday night with my eyes just barely open because they wouldn't allow me to walk with my eyes closed.  I have been here longer than I expected, but what did I really know?

We are starting to think about the modifications that might be needed for our house but I think it won't be very long before I can get myself out of a chair or bed etc. so a walker feels like it might be sufficient.

I cannot believe how many people have said the most laudatory, admiring, respectful things about Dr. Singh. The last person who sang her praises says she is the top, the number one, and that people come into this region to have her be their surgeon.  Now I am curious about what makes an excellent surgeon.  When we met her we knew she was an unusually good communicator but we couldn't know that she was a great surgeon. When people look at my incisions, they shake their heads in admiration.  The whole thing is so random, that we got a doctor that people can't stop praising, without provocation. And I told my mother that she would really like this woman, as a person.

Anyway, very glad to know that we will be out of here tonight.  I feel so weird wearing this gown and all this paraphernalia sticking out of my hand and shuffling around holding my belly.  They tell me this is known as "guarding." You betcha -- don't get near my belly, I'd have to bite you.

  1. I promise not to poke you in the belly. Good thing Becka isn't around right now.

  2. Along the vein of "Down for the couch", I guess you are ready to "BOWel out of there". There is no place like home to recover. Especially when you have a nice couch to relax on. They say good things (including doctors) come to good people. Glad to hear you have the best. Thanks for the stories and keep marching on.

  3. I'm sure there are studies showing that hearing good things about your provider helps you heal better! Sounds like you're on your way, and probably home by now--yay!!
